Class Description:

This class covers all the techniques and tips needed to utilize your Overlocker to its potential.

You will learn what is where, and why on your Overlocker and to thread it with confidence.

We will have fun adjusting those tension dials, which somehow have got such a bad name for themselves, to achieve perfect tension, several different stitches and great finishes.

The differential feed will be explained along with other functions including stitch length, cutting width and foot pressure and how these are applicable when working with various fabrics.

You will learn all the practical techniques needed such as corners, starting, stopping, overlocking in the round and many more, in order to complete a project with a professional finish.

The Overlocker is for so much more than just neatening seam allowances. You will learn to adjust your machine for the flatlock and rolled hem as well as 3 and 4 thread overlocking.

This, and so much more, makes this a class jampacked with tips and techniques.

Overlocker BasicsProject:

You will have plenty of choices such as reusable bowl covers, decorative edging for placemats and napkins, scarfs and more. The projects will give you plenty of opportunities to use everything you learn.

Cost includes:

  • Fabric and elastic for the reusable bowl cover
  • A comprehensive workbook including samples and detailed instructions for future reference
  • Fabric for samples and for practicing techniques
  • Access to patterns for the projects

….and of course, a steady supply of coffee and tea keeping us sustained with something sweet on the side.

What you need to bring:

  • Fabric requirements for your projects will be discussed the first day.
  • Your Overlocker and manual (if you have one)
  • Your Overlocker accessories.
  • General sewing equipment such as pins, fabric shears, matching thread etc. (Thread and a selection of notions are available for purchase).

Skill Level:

While this class has been designed for the happy owner of an Overlocker, yet to unpack the machine, a basic knowledge of sewing is an advantage. If you have some experience in using the Overlocker, you will learn so many tips and techniques, increasing your skill base and know-how to fully utilize your machine.
