Class Description:

This class provides you with the practical skills and knowledge you need to get started on your sewing journey.

You will learn what is where and why on your sewing machine, and if your machine is still in the box, we will set it up together.

With so many stitches, both practical and decorative, available on our machines, we will explore their applications, together with the best choice of seam technique when working with a variety of fabrics.

The relationship between the needle, thread and fabric is important. You will learn to make the right choices for successful and trouble-free completion of your sewing projects.

You will learn to read a pattern, layout the pattern correctly on your fabric as well as cutting and marking before sewing.

This class is packed with the practical tips, tricks and techniques needed to enjoy sewing with confidence.

Projects:

You will complete at least two projects, a Cushion Cover and the ‘Matilda Reversible Tote Bag’. The projects have been designed specifically to include essential skills, invaluable for any type of sewing; garments or home décor.

Cost Includes:

• A comprehensive workbook including samples and detailed instructions for future reference
• ‘Matilda Reversible Tote Bag’ pattern and the Cushion Cover patterns.
• Coffee and tea will be flowing freely, keeping us sustained with something sweet on the side.

What you need to bring:

• 80 cm of cotton fabric for the cushion (the finished cushion cover will fit a standard cushion insert size 16, 41 x 41 cm).
• 2 x 50 cm of cotton fabric (inside and outside) for ‘Reversible Matilda Bag’. We do not need this for the first lesson.
• Sewing Machine (machines are available for hire at $8 per lesson. Please book in advance if required)
• General sewing equipment such as pins, fabric shears, matching thread etc. (Thread and a selection of notions are available for purchase).

Skill Level:

This class have been designed with the absolute beginner in mind. If you have no experience at all, have been waiting for the right moment to open that box or have some experience but want to learn how to achieve that beautiful finish, this class is for you.
